Youth Football

Christian Greetings,

As many of you may know, I am back in the role as head football coach at Life Christian Academy. Tomorrow night we complete a successful football mini-camp for our high school team and we have a record number of players participating. Next week our team will be at Washington State University for a team camp wherein we will practice with and compete with schools from around the state of Washington. This is all in preparation for a successful fall season.

Our state semifinal teams of 2006 and 2007 were led by players that began their playing careers at Life Christian Academy in our “little guys” teams. We want that to happen again, and we believe, with God’s provision, we now have an opportunity to do even better.

We would like to sponsor two Life Christian Academy football teams for our 3-6 grade boys and other boys from our community that want to play on our teams. Our goal would be to provide more playing time by having a 3-4 grade team and a 5-6 grade team. By doing so, we give more boys an opportunity to learn and enjoy the great game of football. Both teams would play tackle football, would be properly equipped, and would compete in the Pierce County Youth Football league. League play begins on September 10 and continues through mid-November. Most games are on Saturday mornings. Practices will be held at Franklin Park or nearby facilities and will begin on August 17. There is a league jamboree for all teams on Labor Day weekend.

By allowing other boys to join our team we benefit by having more boys involved, thus allowing two age appropriate teams, and we also give non Life Christian Academy families an opportunity to experience a Christian football experience, and this could be their point of entry into enrolling at Life Christian Academy if they so desire.

Please contact Karen Bede at 253-756-5317 or by email at karen_bede@life-christian.org to indicate your son or other boys from Life Center or from your neighborhood that want to participate. We will then get you all of the pertinent information about the practice schedule, proper forms for participation, costs, and other related items. Please respond by the end of June as to your son’s interest or other boys that you know of—this will help us effectively plan for the season.

We are excited at this opportunity to grow and expand our program, give young boys an opportunity to learn life’s greatest lessons, and give boys from our community an opportunity to experience Christian coaching and participate in a Christian football program. This will be an exciting fall for Life Christian Academy football—go Eagles!

Greater days ahead,
Ross Hjelseth
