OSPI coordinates the approval of private schools
as an education option for Washington students.
Washington regulations state that a "private
school" is a non-public school conducting a program consisting
of kindergarten and at least grade one or any of all grades
one through twelve. Minimum standards of health, safety, and
education are also defined. Approval is granted by the State
Board of Education upon completion of the application for
approval and recommendation by the Director of Education Support/Private
