The Eagles lost
a disappointing game in their first ever trip to the District Championships
on Saturday. Despite 18 pts and 16 rebounds from Jenn Peterson and
a solid floor game from Jamie Scott, LCA couldn't seem to stop the
Owls from Overlake. Overlake seemed a bit more poised and a bit
more experienced at this level and just kept applying hustle and
pressure, defeating the Eagles by 8.
The Eagles play
tomorrow night vs. Archbishop Murphy at 6:30 in a winner-to-state,
loser out contest.
February 11th
The Eagles girls'
basketball team added another line to their list of history-making
this season. Earlier this season, the ladies beat Cascade Christian
for the first time, beat Seattle Christian for the first time, we've
won more games than we ever have before, and last night added two
more bits of history.
LCA defeated Seattle Christian 42-34 for their
first ever victory at Seattle Christian and that gave the Eagles
their first ever birth to the tri-district tournament!
Anne Halinen (SR) led the team with 15 points, including 7 of 9
from the free throw line (5 of those in the 4th quarter).
Jenn Peterson (JR) had 11 points (6 in the pivotal 3rd quarter)
and 8 rebounds.
Jamie Scott (JR) had 6 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. She hit
a shot from a few steps inside of half court at the buzzer of the
first half to turn a 1 point lead into a 4 point lead, a huge momentum
builder. Brooke Bennett (FR) came off the bench and hit a clutch
basket late in the game and pulled down 4 big rebounds. Her suffocating
defense was a huge spark for the ladies as well. Haley Foss (JR)
took an aggressive role on offense and contributed 8 big points
for the Eagles.
It was a great team
win in which the entire team played a role. The
Eagles play tomorrow night at 6:30 vs. Kings at Seattle Christian
to determine the # 1 and #2 seeds into the district tournament.
February 2nd
The high school girls' basketball
team had a costly win on Saturday night against Auburn Adventist.
Anne Halinen took over her final ever home
game, and her 15 points and 4 rebounds led the Eagles to a nail
biting 43-38 victory. The game saw several key Eagles drop out with
injuries.
Jamie Scott re-injured her shoulder that was operated on this past
summer and missed the entire second half. Jenn Peterson appears
to have further aggravated a partially torn knee ligament and was
only able to play a few minutes in the first half, still gathering
10 points on 4 for 4 shooting and 2 for 2 free throws. Grace-C McGriff
was hit on her scar from a surgery earlier this season, but was
able to return later in the game.
Brooke Bennett sprained her ankle in pre-game warm ups and was only
available for about 4 minutes of playing time. Add Celena Johnson's
fouling out early in the fourth quarter and we were down deep in
our bench. Heather Brebner took over the game, and her 11 rebounds
and 3 steals only tell a part of the story of how much she helped
this team in the 2nd half. Lucy Wold (FR) also came up big, and
despite some obvious nerves provided a very steady hand for the
Eagles in the back court. Lauren Barnhart also gave us some big
minutes in the post when Jenn and Grace-C couldn't go.
The ladies play their final
game of the season tomorrow night at Seattle Christian. We would
all appreciate any prayers for health and recovery that you could
offer. Grace-C, Jenn, and Jamie are all very questionable for tomorrow
and then the league tournament next week.
January 30th
The girls' basketball
team dropped a tough game last night to the Kings Knights, 57-43.
This was one of those games where we just kind of beat ourselves.
Kings came out shooting very well, and our defense was playing very
timid, helping Kings to an 18-6 1st quarter lead. The girls seemed
to remember at half time that they're a good team and made a couple
of very strong runs, but it was just too much to overcome against
that good of a team.Jamie Scott had 16 points to lead the Eagles.
Jenn Peterson had 9 points and 14 rebounds. Celena Johnson fought
back from an ugly ankle roll on the game's first play to score 4
points and have 8 boards. Anne Halinen tossed in 8 points.
Tomorrow night is
Anne's final ever home game. We'd love to see you come out and thank
her for her 4 years of service to our school and its athletic programs.
6:45 in the KAC vs. Auburn Adventist.
