COACHING PHILOSPHY

The coaching staff at Life Christian brings years of experience and great dedication to our team. We have all been a part of high-level athletics, so we understand the mental and physical challenges that our athletes have to endure throughout the course of the season. We are here for two basic reasons: We love track and field and we love the students at LCA. Our goal is to have the most successful track and field program that we can possibly field, and in order for that to happen we have to encourage each individual athlete to find the most success that he or she possibly can. As coaches, we promise to give you our very best efforts daily, and in return we ask that you, too, give your best efforts on a daily basis. This includes remembering that you are representing God, LCA, the coaches, and yourself. Your behavior is as important to us as your performance.

In order to be at your best, you must have clear and attainable goals set for yourself, by yourself. Your coaches would love to help guide you in your goal setting process, but we are unable to set your goals, just as we are unable to reach those goals for you. Goal setting includes short term goals (daily or weekly, between meets, etc), medium range goals (seasonal), and long term goals (high school career, life-time, etc). Goals should be set high enough that they are difficult to reach, but they should be reasonable as well. Winning the state championship is not a reasonable goal for every athlete, and it may not be high enough for some athletes. Set goals, not limits! Your goals should be written down and posted in areas where you will see them daily (on your mirror or bedroom door, car dash board, in your Bible, etc).

Your coaches have set our goals high as well. Our #1 goal is to help you attain your goals. Our workouts that we prescribe have been carefully planned out using our experience, expertise, and advice from fellow coaches. We believe 100% that these workouts, done correctly and diligently, will help propel each athlete to their best possible performances. However, we cannot do the work for you, nor can we control what work you do outside of our practice time. Every member of our coaching staff has competed in multiple sports and we fully support our athletes competing in multiple sports…DURING THE APPROPRIATE SEASONS! If an athlete chooses to compete in other sports during the track and field season, or if he/she chooses to do extra work outside of what we have prescribed, their performances will suffer. This includes their performances in track and field, in their other sports, and in school.

Track and field is, in my opinion, the greatest, purest sport in the world. There is no one to blame but yourself, and conversely there is nobody to steal the credit other than yourself. You will truly get out of track and field what you put into it. You cannot fool or lie to anybody in this sport. Your work ethic and approach to the sport will show through in your performances. If you set your goals high, prepare diligently, and believe in yourself, you will find success.
